New Hanover Scholars Mission
New Hanover Scholars (NHS) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to serving as an example for people of all races and backgrounds to work together to achieve a common goal. We will accomplish this by awarding scholarships to deserving students, which will provide exponential and long-term benefits to all of the residents of New Hanover County.
New Hanover Scholars benefits students from historically marginalized backgrounds attending New Hanover County high schools who have the grades and fortitude to pursue a college education but who may not have the financial means to do so. We provide financial assistance for tuition, room & board, and other college-related expenses for qualifying students. For greater impact, our initial plan is to award scholarships of $5000.00 to a small number of students. Each applicant must be a resident of New Hanover County and attend New Hanover High School.
New Hanover Scholar Criteria
Each scholar applicant is required to meet the designated criteria, including being a member of a historically marginalized community. Each applicant will be carefully considered by members of our team to ensure we choose the best qualified individuals. The Scholarship
New Hanover Scholars will provide financial assistance for tuition, room & board and other college-related expenses to qualifying students. Further details outlining what the scholarship may cover will be provided.
Donor and Community Support
New Hanover Scholars is composed of board members from diverse backgrounds who in most cases themselves have risen above the odds to become successes in their respective fields. Board members in most cases, understand that talent, determination and fortitude are often not enough for a successful life. Opportunity and support from others are also essential. While each board member is fully committed to New Hanover Scholars, we know that it will take more than us to ensure its success. It will take a village. Please donate today to make sure that deserving students from New Hanover County will be able to pursue their dreams!
